The subject of this little work.

Seeing that the Holy Scriptures suggest that we praise men distinguished with glory and our fathers of their generation, this small book contains properly the very Encomium of the most unconquered King (Henry) the Eighth. Of whom, not only the other excellent deeds and stratagems are reviewed here, but also his utmost benefactions to both the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. And, first of all, the physical and spiritual gifts with which Best and Greatest God presented him are enumerated. Then indeed, what he once vigorously and prudently did as a young man, at home and abroad, is described briefly. Then, his achievements and military talents are excellently compared to the deeds of the most powerful former kings, in such a manner that, having been compared to all of them, they can be seen to be by no means inferior. Finally, how he should henceforth acquire true, genuine and everlasting glory, since he thought very highly of the most educated men »» and promoted them to distinguished honours in the administration, is very well and clearly explained.
